"Collapsus signals a new experience in transmedia storytelling that combines interactivity, animation, fiction, and documentary. This pioneering approach blends real documentary footage with mini-games and movie fragments, inviting you to choose your own perspective as the story unfolds. Interact and make decisions to avoid further blackouts; get a broader perspective by listening to the experts; or observe the consequences for everyday people through the fictional story."
In 2010, I collaborated with artists Nathan Jensen and Leah Lovise (both from A Scanner Darkly) at the behest of Tommy Pallota (Producer, A Scanner Darkly, Waking Life) to create around 115 illustrations for collapsus.com, a transmedia project exploring our likely future as the world energy crisis continues unresolved. The site, a creation of Amsterdam's Submarine Channel, is a “documentary mixed with narrative branching off into video games and social networking.” (Boing Boing)
Our illustrations, completed on a 6 week timeline, were later animated using After Effects to create a motion-comic narrative which provides a framework and context for the larger site.
